Regardless of the age or the level of individual, business and professional experience, many people have ever gone through a really frustrating experience that can weaken both the entrepreneurial spirit and the life of any person, I mean the “analysis paralysis”. This is because when making a decision in any area of life, there may be too many options available, too many risks to take, or too much pressure to bear.
The result is that these people see how good things happen to others, while they remain paralyzed making analysis and questions over and over again in an eternal never ending loop, without ever making one or the other decision.
In many cases they ask themselves: why can not I get off the ground?
The paralysis of the analysis, is the opposite face of the “bright object síndrome”, in which an individual in both personal and business life often jump from one good idea to another or jump from strategy to strategy, this is to jump from “flower in flower”, without actually thinking about the consequences of not deepening, or be constant in any of them.
The latter are only looking for the holy grail of business and do not stop trying the next big idea, abandoning the previous one without having worked and deepened enough to see results, it is the antithesis of analysis paralysis, but the “bright object síndrome” I will speak at a next opportunity.
The paralysis of the analysis occurs when a person can not stop thinking and analyzing the consequences that can bring one or another decision.
“If I do this, then this can happen to me”, or
“What else bad situation can happen to me?”
“Maybe it would have been better to have done this instead of that”.
The paralysis of the analysis leads to the lack of execution, nothing is done, there is no movement, no progress is made, this state of inaction occurs because precisely because its name indicates it, the paralysis of the analysis paralyzes and does not allow to decide what really suits and makes sense to do.
But, how to get out of the analysis paralysis?
Here I am going to give you some key recommendations that will help you get out of it:
1. Learn to differentiate the small from the big.
Indeed, the first thing you have to do is to learn to differentiate the small ones from the big decisions. Then you must make the decision based on its importance.
How to identify a big decision of a small one?
The key is to ask yourself these three questions:
Is this decision really important?
Within a year will this decision continue to affect me?
What is the worst that can happen to me?
A. It is a small decision.
If the decision you have to make is not going to affect you or cause serious consequences to you or your business within a year, then it is definitely a small decision. Spend little time deciding and take action to get it going. Example of small decisions:
– What breakfast?
– What color of socks to buy.
– What movie to see at the cinema.
B. It is a big decision.
If the decision you have to make will affect you and can have a big impact, serious implications or serious consequences to you or your business within a year if you arrive at a wrong decision, then you will have identified that this is a big decision. Example of big decisions:
– If you’re going to get married.
– Where will you buy your house?
– What professional career to choose.
– The person who will be a partner in your company.
2. What is your main objective?
At this point you must identify what is the ultimate goal you want to achieve. What do you want to achieve by taking this decision? At the most you need to identify a maximum of 3 main objectives, of which some options are very likely to stand out more than the others. Then you must evaluate based on these objectives what election or elections you could take.
3. Do not be afraid of failure.
In life and in business we are all afraid of failure to make mistakes when making a certain decision. However, my first advice on this point is to not be afraid, we must all take risks and accept the challenge of gaining experience. If you intend to follow the “perfect path” all the time, you will never know what works or what is not, and you will miss out on getting something as valuable as the experience of how it is done.
From each experience that you gain both personally and in business for your company, and from each daring project you carry out, you will learn something about yourself and you will learn to know what works and what does not. The wisdom of experience in the business world is unique to you.
My second advice is that you must overcome the inertia of paralysis and decide for something.
Do you remember the physics classes when you were in high school?
– “An object at rest tends to remain at rest”.
– “An object in motion tends to remain in motion”.
If you have been stuck and are in analysis paralysis mode, you will most likely feel that you will need a good push to move. At the risk that it may seem too simple, there comes a point where making a decision is only in your hands and only you are the one who has to do something to get out of that situation.
4. Eliminate the bad options.
Before leaving the analysis paralysis mode and making a decision to get moving, without a doubt you should choose the one that you consider is the best option for you at that moment.
How to eliminate bad options?
When you have too many options to decide is when most paralyzed can be. At this point the most effective is to make a list of all the available options and then you must eliminate until you have the 3 or 4 best options. At this point it will be much easier to choose the decision you will finally make.
5. Ask for advice.
Once you have eliminated the bad choices and reduced them to 3 or 4, it is the best time to ask for advice from someone you trust who has experience of the issue about the decision you need to make. If the advice or recommendation you give makes sense, then you have it resolved. If not, take the option that you consider the best. In any case, a council will help you clarify your ideas and make the best decision.
Once you have decided and set in motion, everything will become easier and you can move forward in any area of life. I guarantee you that no matter which path you choose, there are always lessons that you will learn from the decisions you make.
Conclusion:
When you have to make a certain decision in any area and think there are too many options available, too many risks to take on, or too much pressure to bear, implement these recommendations so you can get out of that endless mental loop that keeps you trapped and can take The decision you consider is the best option for you at that time. Both personally and professionally with each project you carry out, you will learn more about yourself and learn what works, and what is not, this wisdom that gives the experience, will bring you closer to success in your life.
